  • July 2026 — designAmerica announces a new software platform, now in beta.

    designAmerica is developing a new software platform — currently in private beta, with a public launch planned for later this year. It reimagines how expert AI analysis, modeling, and visualization tools are built and delivered — making work that was once impractical both feasible and accessible to the people and organizations working to understand, and protect, our home planet. See the DAI Earth Orbiter and Deep Space Explorer visualizers here as an early taste. Stay tuned.

  • February 2026 — NASA Recognition for FSTOL Co-Invention

    designAmerica recognized by NASA for our co-invention entitled "(FSTOL) Flight Spacecraft Test and Operations Language CFS (Core Flight System) Application" — NASA Case No. GSC-[number].   • January 2024 — The Mission Continues: OSIRIS-APEX

    Following its successful sample return, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft was renamed OSIRIS-APEX and will now enter an extended mission to visit and study near-Earth asteroid Apophis in 2029 — with Team designAmerica and ASIST all the way!

  • December 2023 — Team OSIRIS-REx Wins the Robert H. Goddard Trophy

    Team OSIRIS-REx, including Team designAmerica, wins the prestigious Robert H. Goddard Trophy presented annually to the group who has made a substantial contribution to U.S. leadership in astronautics or rocketry. designAmerica Making History. Following its launch on September 8, 2016 aboard United Launch Alliance's Atlas V 411 from Cape Canaveral, NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission made history when it became the first U.S. spacecraft to touch an asteroid and capture a sample on Oct. 20, 2020, and again when it successfully delivered that sample to Earth on Sept. 24, 2023. The sample — the largest asteroid sample ever delivered to Earth — is from the ancient, carbon-rich asteroid Bennu and will give research groups worldwide a glimpse into the earliest days of our solar system, offering insights into planet formation and the origin of organics that led to life on Earth. Data collected by the spacecraft combined with future analysis of the Bennu sample will also aid our understanding of asteroids that can impact Earth. The OSIRIS-REx mission conducted unprecedented centimeter-scale mapping of Bennu, surpassing precision levels achieved for any other planetary body and setting three Guinness World Records: smallest object orbited by a spacecraft, closest orbit of an asteroid, and highest-resolution satellite map of any planetary body. Designed and built by Lockheed Martin in Denver, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft also pioneered technology that can be used on future exploration missions, including a specially developed autonomous navigation technology that allowed it to perform its Touch and Go (TAG) sample collection maneuver. "The samples collected by the OSIRIS-REx mission are going to require school science books to be rewritten," said Joe Vealencis, president, National Space Club. "The data the spacecraft collected as it orbited Bennu and the science that is yet to be discovered from the samples it returned to Earth will benefit all humankind in our collective understanding of the universe. Our sincerest congratulations to all those who played a role in this historic success."

  • October 16, 2021 — LUCY Mission Launches to the Trojan Asteroids of Jupiter

    The NASA Discovery Program LUCY mission launches from Cape Canaveral on its way to the Trojan Asteroids of Jupiter, with our last asteroid flyby in 2034. Based on our MAVEN, then OSIRIS-REx mission success train as a key supplier, the designAmerica team and Our Commercial ASIST product was selected by Lockheed Martin based on our OSIRIS-REx success for the complete LUCY 'womb-to-tomb' satellite development, integration & test, and mission ops at LM Littleton and continuing for the long flight to the Trojan Asteroids, where we currently support LM and LUCY in Phase E flight to the Trojans. Congratulations to Team designAmerica for our continuing solar system exploration success with MAVEN, OSIRIS-REx and now LUCY.

The mission and particularly the Asteroid Sample Return on Sept 24, 2023 to the Utah Proving Ground goes down in aerospace history for mission success at Asteroid Bennu, with the OSIRIS-REx team winning the Robert H. Goddard Memorial Trophy from the National Space Club "as the first U.S. mission to successfully capture and return an asteroid sample." Congratulations Team designAmerica for our significant and continuing Solar System Exploration success for LM and NASA!

    designAmerica receives yet another A+ on our LM Supplier Scorecard. As a key supplier since 2010 of our Commercial ASIST Product to LM Littleton for the entire mission lifecycle (cradle to on-orbit mission success) for MAVEN, OSIRIS-REx, now continuing APEX (to Asteroid Apophis in 2029), and now continuing LUCY to the Trojan Asteroids of Jupiter (last flyby 2033), we are very proud of our accomplishments and team with LM for these major and historic NASA Missions. We continue to support both APEX flying to Asteroid Apophis and LUCY flying to the Trojan Asteroids.   • January 16-17, 2013 — OSIRIS-REx Preliminary Ground System Review

    designAmerica Lead Engineers Thomas Green, Jeff Condron, and George Wofford present Commercial ASIST Software at the OSIRIS-REx Preliminary Ground System Review for the Asteroid Bennu Sample Return, using MAVEN Baseline and MAVEN Synergy and Heritage allowing us to continually implement Lessons Learned. Success leads to more success!

  • October 22, 2010 — LCROSS on the Cover of Science (AAAS)

    LCROSS makes news on the cover of the prestigious Science (AAAS), which details the LCROSS lunar impact and the discovery/confirmation of water inside Crater Cabeus near the lunar South Pole — 100% success. Congratulations to both NASA Ames, and especially to our designAmerica team, for their hard work and contribution to this astounding discovery in 2009!

  • June 10, 2010 — MAVEN Ground Data System Peer Review

    designAmerica Lead Engineers George Wofford and Jeff Condron present the MAVEN Ground Data System (GDS) Peer Review for the mission at LM Littleton, CO. Commercial ASIST was selected at Phase A downselect to be the Womb-to-Tomb solution (in board/box/instrument development labs, Spacecraft I&T, and Mission Operations) for MAVEN!

  • October 9, 2009 — LCROSS Discovers Water on the Moon

    designAmerica Commercial ASIST and Team success working with our partner NASA Ames for the LCROSS impactor at the South Pole of the Moon to find approx. 50 lbs of water deep inside Crater Cabeus. LCROSS successful (and as a low-cost, Class D mission) in finding the first water seen on the Moon.
